2013 MERCEDES-BENZ SL63 AMG - The 2013 SL63 has a lower fuel consumption in comparison to its predecessor thanks partially to a lower weight. It's 275 pounds (125kg) lighter, weighing a total of 4,059 pounds (1845 kg).
The 2013 Mercedes SL63 comes with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission, a speed-sensitive sports steering system, compound brakes, and a sports suspension system, which is based on Active Body Control (ABC).
The new Mercedes SL63 AMG (2013) will be available with a choice between three roof types: a painted roof, a glass roof and an electrohydraulically retractable vario-roof (opens/closes in 20 seconds) featuring the MAGIC SKY CONTROL technology.
For the interior of the SL63 AMG (2013), Mercedes designed new jet engine styled vents, new sport seats and a RACETIMER. The materials used for the 2013 SL63's interior include nappa leather, carbon fiber and aluminum. Daimler's interior designers also fitted the 2013 SL63 AMG with ambient lighting, an IWC analogue clock, a TFT color monitor, and AMG start-up display. Some of the 2013 SL63's distinctive exterior styling features include the new front bumper with large air vents, the LED daytime running lights, the side sill panels, the rear boot lid spoiler, the rear diffuser and of course, the two trademark chromed twin tailpipes.
We'll get a little bit technical next. Some of the engine technology that makes the Mercedes SL63 AMG the super roadster that it is, includes twin turbochargers, four valves per cylinder with camshaft adjustment, and an air/water intercooling system. To lower the SL63's fuel consumption, Mercedes gave it an ECO start/stop function, and a spray-guided direct petrol injection. The 2013 Mercedes SL63 features a 4-link front suspension with steering knuckles and spring links, and a multi-link independent rear suspension (aluminum). The new SL63 also comes with a rear axle differential lock, and a 3-stage ESP. It's gearbox offers four driving modes: C (Controlled Efficiency), S (Sport), S+ (Sport plus) and M (Manual). Yes, the 2013 SL63 has a launch control function, which is called RACE START, but it also features an automatic double-declutching function for downshifting.
As always, Mercedes is very careful when it comes to their customer’s safety. The 2013 SL63 features 390 x 36 mm compound discs with six-piston fixed callipers at the front axle and 360 x 26 mm integral discs with single-piston floating callipers at the rear one. Its safety equipment includes PRE-SAFE as standard, NECK-PRO crash-responsive head restraints and countless airbags.
The AMG Performance package for the 2013 Mercedes SL63 includes a Performance Steering Wheel with DINAMICA side grips, the limited slip differential lock and red brake callipers. They will also increase the SL63's top speed to 186 mph.
The price and availability of the Mercedes SL63 AMG (2013) for the USA and UK markets will be announced at a later date. In the rest of Europe, the 2013 Mercedes SL63's price list starts at €157,675 EUR. The AMG package will cost you an additional €14,280 EUR.
