New Dodge Durango Ready to Serve Police and Fire Fighting Agencies - The Chrysler Group has presented its answer to the respective SUV proposals from General Motors and Ford Motor Co. for use by police, fire and general fleet customers in the form of the new Durango Special Service model.
The Durango, which follows the introduction of the Dodge Charger Pursuit and more recently, the Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 Special Service models, is available for order now with first deliveries expected to begin in the second quarter of the year.
“We’re incredibly excited to add the Dodge Durango Special Service to our line-up of law enforcement vehicles,” said Peter Grady, Vice President of Network Development and Fleet Operations. “Adding Durango to our current Dodge Charger Pursuit and Ram 1500 Special Service vehicles allows us to offer a full range of fleet sedan, SUV, and truck options to law enforcement and government agencies.”
The Dodge Durango Special Service is offered with either a 290-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine or the 360 horsepower 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine, in both rear- and all-wheel drive layouts.
Unique components include a heavy-duty package with uprated brakes, battery, water pump and engine oil cooler along with a larger-output 220-amp alternator.
Other modifications include a customizable rear cargo area with under-floor storage compartments and additional storage in the side compartments, a special service interior dome lamp and headliner, spot lamp wiring prep and the deletion of the third row of seats to increase the capacity of the trunk.
